Captioning for all content is just one of the benefits that Amazon Prime members get when streaming content from Amazon Prime Video, Amazon provides captioning for all content available on its video streaming service, but the company has now reached an agreement with the National Association of the Deaf to commit to adding captions to more than 190,000 TV shows and movies that can be rented or purchased outside of Amazon Prime Video.
In a statement released to the media the National Association of the Deaf acknowledges that Amazon has already added captions to a “vast majority” of content available on its service and with the new agreement it’s going to do the same for more than 190,000 titles in its library.
Initially Amazon is only going to focus on titles that have recently been watched users, the company has already ensured that captions are available for more than 85 percent of its video content that has been viewed more than ten times in the past three months. It promises that by the end of this year it will caption at least 90 percent of such content and aims to reach 100 percent by December 31st, 2016.
This will certainly go a long way to make online entertainment more accessible for those who are deaf and hard of hearing, 48 million in the United States alone, and many more across the globe.
