This rumored service is expected to complement its current video offerings. The report goes on to add that the company has reached out to networks and studios like CBS, NBCUniversal, and more about possibly carrying their channels in their service. However if you were hoping that this service would launch soon, you might be disappointed.
Amazon is said to only be in the early stages of planning at this point in time and are considering their options. This means that there is a good chance that if Amazon can’t come to an agreement with the companies or if after discussions, they realize that it won’t be very profitable, the plan could be scrapped entirely.
This seems to be echoed by Frost & Sullivan analyst Dan Rayburn who wrote, “Those I have spoken with haven’t disclosed how far along Amazon is with regards to a live OTT service. It’s possible Amazon is simply looking at the economics of the business, which would involve them talking with content owners about costs.”
Unsurprisingly Amazon has declined to comment on the rumors, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
