Have you ever wished that Microsoft would produce handsets like the Lumia series but instead of Windows, they would opt to go with Android instead? While it seems unlikely that will be happening anytime soon, considering the investment Microsoft has made with Windows 10 and its mobile equivalent, there was a recent bug in Windows 10 Mobile that allowed Android to be installed.
Thanks to a bug discovered in the Android runtime, it allowed users to install the Android operating system onto a Lumia 830. As you can see in the video above, it clearly shows that the handset is running the Android 5.0.2 operating system. Now before you get too excited, getting Android installed on the Lumia 830 isn’t as easy as you might think.
For starters, you will need access to several proprietary tools that only Microsoft has. This means that if you’re just tinkering around with publicly available tools, you would be out of luck. Secondly it turns out that Microsoft was pretty quick to catch on to this bug and have since squashed it, so expect that future Windows 10 Mobile builds will no longer allow Android to be installed.
We have to admit that it is still a pretty cool trick even though it is an exploitation of a bug, and it also gives us a glimpse into what could have been (Nokia X handsets notwithstanding).
