It was reported a few months back that Verizon is working on a new over-the-top video streaming service which will be called Go90. The company hasn’t confirmed any major details about this service and hasn’t provided a confirmed release date yet, but according to a new report today this mobile streaming service from Verizon is going to be formally launched to the public later this week.
The report further mentions that the Verizon Go90 video streaming service will be free for all but it will be ad-supported. It’s also claimed that the service will be open for everybody so it doesn’t matter if they’re Verizon subscribers or not, they’ll be able to access Go90 anyway.
Verizon is reportedly targeting the tech-savvy 18-34 year old demographic who are increasingly moving towards mobile devices in order to consume content.
The New York Times report adds that Go90 will provide a mix of live events, original web series and prime-time television. Instead of offering entire networks the service will feature popular shows from the likes of Comedy Central, Food Network, ESPN, NFL Network and Discovery as well as online series from AwesomenessTV, Vice, Tastemade and Machinima.
Social sharing options will be integrated into the service as well, enabling users to easy get the word out. Verizon is said to be considering an expansion of Go90 to televisions as well but initially the service will only be provided on smartphones and tablets.
