A couple of years ago, Ultimate Ears launched the UE Boom speakers. These were a set of Bluetooth speakers shaped like a cylinder that also promised a somewhat impressive 15 hours of battery life. For those looking for an upgrade, you’re in luck as Ultimate Ears has officially announced the successor in the form of the UE Boom 2.
Before you think that your eyes are tricking you, you can relax because they aren’t. The UE Boom 2 looks pretty much the same as the originals, except that the company has made some changes under the hood that will hopefully make it more appealing, with one of those changes being a louder sound.
The company claims that the UE Boom 2 is 25% louder than its predecessor, going up to a max level of 90db. There has also been new touch gestures introduced where tapping the speaker will start/stop the music, and double-tapping will allow you to skip to the next track. The speakers are also available in new and bright colors, along with an IPX7 water-resistant rating.
Ultimate Ears has also reworked the internals to improve its Bluetooth range up to 100 feet. However the battery still remains the same at 25%, but given the louder speakers, chances are if you were to blast it at max levels, you might find you will get much less time than you did with the original.
