This is something Target is hoping to avoid which is why according to the rumors, there are plans to start testing robot workers in their stores. This will be the result of a collaboration between the retailer and Techstars, a startup accelerator which will see the launch of a new Target concept store in 2016.
Target’s press release does not specifically mention robots, so like we said it is a rumor. According to Casey Carl, Target’s chief strategy and innovation officer, “We know that technology will continue to revolutionize retail, and that Target’s future will be built on innovation. That’s why we’re so excited to partner with Techstars and invite the world’s most promising startups to work with Target right in our backyard.”
At the same time, it has been pointed out that Techstars has a program for robotics, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if robot workers could potentially be involved in this concept store in the future.
