It was just last week that Sony announced the Xperia Z5 lineup. In terms of pricing, Sony had pegged the Xperia Z5 at $910 for the 32GB model, $1,062 for the Xperia Z5 Premium, and $834 for the Xperia Z5 Compact. We have to admit that these are a bit steep compared to the Android competition, and maybe Sony has realized that as well.
It would seem that even before the phones have been officially released, Sony has already given the Xperia Z5 lineup a price cut. The price cuts range from around 7% to a whopping 21%. For example with the price cut, the Xperia Z5 will only cost $840. The Xperia Z5 Premium is at a more affordable $962, but the biggest cut of all is the Xperia Z5 Compact which can be bought for $656.
That being said it should be noted that these prices are based off the Sony UK website, meaning that we’re basically converting from GBP to USD. We’re not sure if the Sony US will be giving its phone a price cut as well. We also can’t be sure why Sony has decided to discount the phones ahead of its launch, but we can’t complain!
We suppose in terms of smartphone market share, Sony isn’t quite up there compared to the likes of Samsung or LG. By giving their phones a discount, it is probably Sony’s attempt at drawing new customers in who might be put off from the price before, but whether or not it will work remains to be seen.
