In June a certain Sony handset going by the name of the Xperia Z4v was announced. The device would be an exclusive to Verizon and at that time, proved to be the most powerful Sony handset to date, thanks to its QHD display and the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset.
Fast forward to today, it has been almost four months but the handset has yet to arrive, and now there is speculation that it may never. As noted by the folks at Xperia Blog, Sony Mobile had initially had a page for the Sony Xperia Z4v. The handset was listed as “coming soon” but now according to reports, that page has since been taken down.
The promotional website is still up and running but to date there has not been any new information regarding the availability of it. Verizon’s website has no mention of the device either. That being said, apart from it being a Verizon exclusive we have to wonder if there is any point to launching the device now.
After all Sony has since launched a trio of new handsets in the form of the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and the Xperia Z5 Premium with its (occasional) 4K display. The specs are almost the same, if not better, so like we said, with these new handsets does Sony/Verizon even need to bother with an exclusive?
