If there was a feature unique to Sony’s flagship smartphones is that they are water-resistant. In fact Sony has advertisements in which they show the phone being dunked and taken underwater to snap photos. There was even a point where Sony had an underwater popup store to demonstrate its products’ water-resistance.
However oddly enough Sony had issued new guidelines for its phones in which they more or less discouraged taking their Xperia phones with you on a swim. Instead they claimed its water-resistance was more directed towards accidental spills and rain drops. Like we said it was odd, but Sony has since issued a statement to clarify those new guidelines.
According to Sony, “The recent changes to guidance we provide to our customers are designed to more clearly illustrate the best ways to protect devices in day-to-day usage. We communicate necessary precautions, and the specific parameters of ingress protection ratings, to help customers to protect their smartphones and tablets in line with the applicable warranty we provide.”
Sony also goes ahead and claims that they have since updated their marketing visuals “to better advocate sensible usage of our devices.” As for warranty concerns, they will remain the same as before, and that claims will be considered on a case by case basis for customers.
