If you believe that 2K displays on smartphones is stretching it then you’re going to love what Sony just came up with, the company announced a new lineup of Xperia handsets today and the flagship models brings something very unique to the table. Xperia Z5 Premium is the “world’s first” smartphone with a 4K display, making it quite a unique product that can display content in full 4K with a display to match as well as 4K Ultra HD upscaling technology to ensure that content can really take advantage of that kind of resolution.
Xperia Z5 Premium shares its internal specs with the Xperia Z5, it has a Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM and a 23 megapixel rear camera with ultra-fast 0.03 seconds autofocus. Sony says that this is the fastest autofocus available on the market right now.
This handset’s selling point is meant to be its display though: it’s a 5.5 inch 4K display with a whopping 806 pixels per inch. Sony promises that the device will upscale images and videos to 4K but then again upscaling isn’t as good as the real deal.
Such a display ought to consume a fair bit of power but Sony is adamant that it can provide backup for up to two days on a single charge, it comes with a 3,430mAh battery.
The handset’s design isn’t all that different from other models in the lineup, it’s quite heavy though at 180 grams but does have a very high build quality.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will be released globally starting November 2015 in both single and dual-SIM variants, pricing has not yet been confirmed.
