Skype version 6.0 has been released for iOS and Android today, it’s yet another update that makes some changes to the app’s overall design however it’s a major revamp this time around. The last major redesign was back in June 2014 when the company ported over design elements from Windows Phone to iOS and Android apps, it’s rectifying that situation with the new update today.
The new app features a design that’s meant to be more intuitive and natural, according to the company, so it’s no longer trying to force Windows Phone-esque look and feel to users on other platforms.
The app now features buttons at the bottom of the app to differentiate the various sections, on Android the app gets a lot of Material Design elements which means that Skype will now feel at home on devices running Lollipop.
On Skype for iOS there’s support for swipe gestures that easily allow users to mute and delete conversations or quickly make a call. The chat interface remains more or less the same with a new attachment icon that allows users to easily add video messages, photos and location to a conversation.
Microsoft has updated the apps for iOS and Android but no such drastic revamp has been witnessed for Windows Phone so users on Microsoft’s own mobile platform don’t get a fresh coat of paint, however Microsoft is working on a completely new Skype app for Windows 10 Mobile.
