Siri In iOS 9.1 Beta Could Be Activated By Specific Voices

One of the features of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is how the M9 co-processor has been built into the A9 chipset. According to Apple, this allows the M9 to be always-on, meaning that it will be able to detect your voice and commands like “Hey Siri” without you having to touch your phone. Pretty cool, right?

However what’s stopping someone else from saying, “Hey Siri” and activating your device? Thankfully it seems that Apple might have an answer to that. The iOS 9.1 beta was recently released and according to developers, it turns out that there is a new Siri setup process that can be found in the Settings menu.

Basically as you can see in the screenshot, it asks users to setup the “Hey Siri” functionality through voice recognition. While we can’t be sure of what it actually does yet, it sounds like the voice recognition could mean that the feature can only be activated by you alone, kind of like Touch ID but for Siri.

Alternatively it has been speculated that it could be just a better way for the feature to better identify your voice. It is also unclear if this will be limited to the new iPhones or if it will be a feature across iOS devices, but we suppose we’ll just have to wait and find out. In the meantime iOS 9 is expected to be released on the 16th of September.
