Samsung-Pay-03

There’s no shortage of mobile payment services in the United States but today yet another service joins the ranks in a bid to make you give up having to take out your wallet altogether. Samsung Pay was announced earlier this year and since then the service has been extensively tested in South Korea, it went live in the country about a month ago and right on scheduled it has gone live in the United States on September 28th.

It does have a unique aspect to it that’s missing in rivals like Apple Pay. Samsung Pay supports both NFC and MST based transactions which means it can be readily accepted at merchants that don’t have NFC terminals, MST enables them to accept payments via Samsung Pay by using their existing credit card terminals.

Samsung Pay only works with the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. It’s also compatible with the Gear S2 but the smartwatch won’t be out for another month.

In order to use the service you must be on T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T or U.S. Cellular and you’ll need a Visa, MasterCard or American Express card for the service to work. Bear in mind that Verizon doesn’t have support for Samsung Pay just yet.
