Samsung teased its new smartwatch last month at the event for Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, about a week back it formally unveiled the smartwatch. At IFA 2015 this week Samsung talked more about the Gear S2 and it was revealed that the smartwatch is capable of working with non-Samsung Android smartphones as well despite the fact that it runs on Tizen. Turns out, iPhone support for the Gear S2 is also on the cards.
The Apple Watch already has enough competition as it is considering the fact that Android Wear recently got support for iOS, some existing and all future smartwatches powered by Android Wear will work with iPhones as well.
If Samsung does decide to do this then iPhone users will have more choice, they don’t necessarily have to buy the Apple Watch if a wearable device is all they need, they can very well go with the Gear S2.
A spokesperson for Samsung told Digital Spy that the company is looking into this mainly because it has already opened the smartwatch up to Android so it kind of makes sense to do the same for the iPhone as well.
Samsung has not yet confirmed when it might roll out iPhone support for the Gear S2 but seeing as how the smartwatch starts shipping next month we just might have to wait for a couple of months before this happens.
