There is a huge global market when it comes to smartphones, and with so many different manufacturers who have thrown their hat into the game, surely there are some who have fared better than the others. The most recent Counterpoint research numbers happen to show that Samsung is at the top of the charts, where they have managed to shore up the dropping sales figures of its flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S6, through the offering of other devices in the premium and mid-range segments. In other words, Samsung has snagged a 19 % global share – while Apple has “just” 10% in second place, with Huawei still in third spot at 7%.
Of course, statistics are a very sensitive subject matter – a whole lot of it depends on how data is interpreted, as well as the method of obtaining them. Do bear in mind that the figures mentioned above happen to be for mobile phones as a whole, and if you were to just count in smartphones alone which have approximately 75% market share, then Samsung would pull ahead with a 21% figure, with Apple also increasing their share at 14% while Huawei maintains third place with 9%.
Do you think that the “rankings” will change anytime soon in the near future, and will there be some unsuspecting upstart lurking around the corner?
