The Volkswagen Group has made it quite clear at the Frankfurt Auto Show that it’s serious about getting into the electric car business, Audi unveiled its e-tron quattro all electric SUV concept and the Porsche brand is embracing the e-revolution as well. Porsche Mission E is an all electric four-seater sedan concept with a design that’s unlike anything that Porsche has ever made before, it promises a 311 mile range on a single charge and also promises to charge faster than a Tesla.
Let’s talk numbers. Porsche says that it’s going after “long-distance driving” with the Mission E but it’s not going to make the car boring, it will have 600bhp with a 0-62mph time of under 3.5 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph. All of this from a car that drives in a “sporty” manner and gives a 311 mile range on a single charge.
That’s impressive to say the least but it doesn’t end there. According to Porsche the Mission E is capable of storing an 80 percent charge in just 15 minutes of being plugged in courtesy of Porsche’s 800-volt “Turbo Charging” system, at this rate they’re even faster than Tesla’s Superchargers.
This concept features all sorts of gizmos and futuristic features such as eye tracking and OLED instrumentation but the fact remains that it’s a concept after all. Porsche isn’t saying if and when the Mission E will go into production, or if it’s going to come out with an entirely new electric car that sort of resembles what the company is showing off with the Mission E concept.
