Online Poker Players Targeted By Virus That Spies On Their Cards

One of the ways to win at poker is by bluffing your way to victory. This involves making your opponent think that you have a potentially better hand than they do. Of course sometimes this is true and they find out much to their dismay. Unfortunately it seems that a new virus has been making its rounds, and this time they are targeting online poker players.

The virus, according to security researcher Robert Lipovsky, is targeting players who play at Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker websites. What happens is that this virus allows the hacker to actually peep at the cards the player is holding. From there, the hackers will then try to get into the same poker rooms as their victims, and based on their insider knowledge, they will then try to win money off of them.

So how does one get infected by this virus? Ironically enough, the virus was found hiding in several tools used by poker players that supposedly makes them better poker players. This includes tools like poker calculators, along with file-sharing apps and player databases. The virus has been making its round for months now and seems to largely target those living in Eastern Europe.

Unfortunately it is unclear as to how one might be able to get rid of the virus, but if you’d like to prevent being infected, perhaps it’s best to keep your antivirus software up to date, and maybe try to avoid downloading and using shady poker software.
