It has been confirmed that Sony’s Project Morpheus would be known as the PlayStation VR upon its commercial release. Now the question we’re sure many are wondering is how much will it cost? While no specific numbers have been shared, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said it could be priced as a new gaming platform.
What does that mean? Does that mean it could be priced at $399 which is the same as PS4? However like we said, no specific numbers were mentioned. Oddly enough none of the virtual reality headset manufacturers have offered up prices just yet. Oculus stated that their head would be priced $1,500 all-in, meaning that it includes the cost of getting a new computer that can support it.
HTC has not mentioned how much the HTC Vive headset will cost either, and now neither has Sony, but at least we have a rough idea. That being said along with announcing a potential price, Sony also revealed that there would be at least 10 playable titles compatible with the PlayStation VR, so gamers can look forward to that upon its release.
There is no word on when the PlayStation VR will be released, but many are expecting to see it in the first half of 2016 which will put it in competition with the likes of Oculus and HTC, so it will be an interesting battle to see which company will prevail.
