That being said, it looks like Panasonic wants to revive the vinyl as they have announced during IFA 2015 that they will be bringing the Technics brand back. The company has announced plans to relaunch a reinvented Technics turntable for the modern day, with the prototype being what you see in the image above.
It is a very minimalist kind of design (which we are totally digging) and it seems that it is less for the DJ and more for the vinyl lover. According to Panasonic, the turntables will be rebuilt at every level. Speaking to WIRED, Michiko Ogawa, director of Technics and executive officer at Panasonic said, “Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand. It is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”
No word on when it will be released or when more details will be shared as Panasonic has simply stated that it will be during their next fiscal year, which is between April 2016 to March 2017. No word on pricing either, but with vinyl sales on the rise and the increased popularity of the format, now’s as good a time as any to get back into the game.
