Original Xperia Z Series Gets Android 5.1 At Last

Sony was one of the few OEMs that had promised to release Android 5.1 Lollipop for even some of their older devices and the company has steadily been working towards that aim. It recently released Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Xperia T2 Ultra and now the company has confirmed that the Lollipop update is being rolled out for the original Xperia Z series that was released back in 2013. Folks who own those handsets have had to wait for a considerable amount of time to get a taste of Lollipop and they’ll certainly get it soon at last.

Sony confirmed through a tweet posted on one of its official accounts that Android 5.1 Lollipop has been released over-the-air for the original Xperia Z series.

Some of the models are well over two years old so its kudos to Sony for updating those older models as while, because generally OEMs don’t roll out major updates for devices that are older than two years.

The Xperia T2 Ultra is a much recent device comparatively since it was released back in January last year, it’s a mid-range device, the kind that is usually left out of the fray when OEMs are deciding which old models will receive a new major update.

This is likely going to be a staged rollout which means not everyone is going to receive the update at the same time, but now that they know it’s coming, a little patience will certainly go a long way.
