blackberry-priv-official-1

One of BlackBerry’s worst kept secrets this year has been its first Android-powered device, codenamed Venice, it was leaking left, right and center for the past couple of weeks before BB decided to bite the bullet and confirm that it has indeed developed an Android smartphone which is officially called the BlackBerry Priv. The company today released official BlackBerry Priv images which offer us a very good look at this rather unique smartphone from the Canadian manufacturer.

Many people have been imploring BlackBerry to adopt Android for quite some time now and finally the company has decided to make the switch, though it reiterates multiple times that the handset will provide the level of security that BB users expect from the company’s devices.

BlackBerry still hasn’t detailed the handset’s specifications, all we know is that it runs a BB-optimized version of Android and features a full QWERTY physical keyboard which slides out. The keyboard also doubles as a trackpad, something that the BlackBerry Passport first introduced to the world.

Three images have been released by the company, two profile shots which also show what it looks like when the keyboard slides out and a front-angle view. It’s certainly one of the most unique Android handsets to come to market in recent years, though it remains to be seen if it brings back lost customers for BlackBerry.
