A couple of months ago, NVIDIA announced that they would be recalling some of their SHIELD tablets. The recall only affected those that were sold between July 2014 to July 2015, which had been estimated to be around 90,000 affected units. Unfortunately it seems that the recall isn’t going as smoothly as one would hope.
According to reports, it seems that there is a slight delay in handling the recalls. NVIDIA has reportedly sent an email to several of its customers informing them that the delay in replacing their SHIELD tablet is taking a bit longer than expected. According to the email, “We apologize for the delay in sending your replacement SHIELD Tablet.”
The company also added, “We are fulfilling claims as quickly as we can, in the order in which they were received. In some cases, we are running behind our target delivery of 2-4 weeks. We’re doing everything we can to accelerate the schedule.” Unfortunately it is unclear as to how long of a delay it will be, so we guess NVIDIA customers will just have to remain patient.
In the meantime for those hearing about the recall for the first time, it seems that there are some battery issues with the tablets. NVIDIA discovered that the batteries could run the risk of being a fire hazard due to potential overheating issues, hence the recall. So far there have been no reports of incidents, but better safe than sorry, right?
