It’s a big day for Google tomorrow, it has an event lined up where it’s going to unveil two new Nexus smartphones, a second-generation Chromecast and also make announcements concerning some of its services like YouTube and Google Play Music. What many are most looking forward to though are the new Nexus handsets and according to a new report both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will only be sold online after launch.
In the past Google has sold Nexus handsets through carrier stores, at least in the United States, so it would be a big departure from tradition for the company if it does indeed only sell the handsets online.
It almost makes you remember the time when the Nexus One was released, that handset was sold online only and not through carrier stores, but Nexus handsets have come a long way since then and do warrant significant visibility at carrier stores.
The reason for this change is not immediately clear but AndroidPolice seems to be pretty confident about the information it has acquired, it’s unclear right now if Google will sell the handsets through online retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, we’ll only know for sure tomorrow so all we can do right now is wait.
