Google’s Chromecast dongle was an unexpected hit, the $35 HDMI dongle now has many more content sources as compared to when it first arrived on the scene and many have high expectations that the second-generation Chromecast will be even better. Google is expected to unveil a new Chromecast at its event tomorrow, as per a report published today the second-generation Chromecast features higher resolution, improved performance and comes in three colors while retaining the $35 price.
The report claims that the first major revision for Chromecast retains the HDMI design from the first-gen dongle but it does get new features that will make people interested in this nifty little device.
It may be sold in three colors, Black, Lemonade and Coral, but that might not matter to most users since the dongle is supposed to hide behind the TV anyway. The second-gen Chromecast will presumably be compatible with 4K TVs and provide improved performance, it’s unclear whether that means compatibility with 5GHz wireless networks or an upgraded chipset.
Some new content partners may also be announced alongside the new dongle tomorrow, Google is expected to retain the $35 price for Chromecast, the new dongle is reportedly going to be available for purchase immediately after the announcement tomorrow.
