While it is great that companies such as Google and Samsung have launched their virtual reality headsets this early into the game, the issue is that there isn’t much virtual reality-related content available for the devices right now. Sure, some companies have created apps that will bring the VR experience, but they aren’t particularly mainstream just yet.
However the good news is that if you plan on being an early adopter of the Samsung Gear VR (its retail version is pegged for November this year), you will be pleased to learn that as far as content is concerned, you will have a ton to choose from. This is thanks to the fact that services such as Netflix, Twitch, and Hulu will be making its way onto the headset.
This was announced at the Oculus Connect conference earlier today. That being said while this sounds like a pretty good way to ensure more content gets onto virtual reality, the fact of the matter is that not all content will support virtual reality. For example Hulu has stated that they have created some original virtual reality short-form content specifically for the Gear VR.
However we suppose at the end of the day, it will just be another way for you to enjoy your movies and video streams. We reckon it might be a while before we start seeing more content being filmed with virtual reality in mind, but this seems to be a pretty good start.
