NASA Taps Arx Pax For ‘Tractor Beam’

The Hoverboard which we talked about last year proved that it might not be possible to travel to the future, but one can certainly develop ideas from the future in the here and now. It seems that Arx Pax, the company behind the Hoverboard, has been tapped by NASA through a Space Act Agreement, where this particular partnership will see the use of Arx Pax’s Magnetic Field Architecture (MFA) technology that will be embedded in order to come up with micro-satellite capture devices which are able to manipulate and actually couple satellites from a distance. In other words, we are looking at a tractor beam.

Arx Pax CEO Greg Henderson shared, “Likely uses for this technology include manipulating various types of objects at a distance without touching them or colliding with them. One example could be moving an object, like a satellite, or holding it stationary without physical contact.”

To date, the specific details concerning the technology’s roadmap have not been shared out, as the entire partnership is still a work in progress, so perhaps at specific points in the joint development, more details will be shared. I wonder whether this ‘tractor beam’ technology will also be used to clear up the amount of debris orbiting around our earth.
