That being said for those who thought the process could be improved upon, you’re in luck as Skype has recently announced that by the end of the year, users will be able to use Skype with Edge without the need of a plug-in, thanks to the use of ORTC APIs that according to Microsoft, “will enable us to develop advanced real-time communications scenarios.”
According to Microsoft, “Starting later this year, Skype users will be able to make voice and video calls without needing to install a plug-in on Microsoft Edge and we are working on bringing the same seamless experience to Skype for Business.” Unfortunately there was no specific date on when it would be released.
Like we said earlier this isn’t a huge inconvenience at the moment, and downloading the official Skype app might be a good idea too. However if you’re not using your own computer and you need access to Skype, then we suppose this feature is something to keep an eye out for.
