LG announced its Android Wear-powered LG Watch Urbane last February, and the device was introduced to the US market later, at the end of April. Today, a day after Google Android hardware big event, LG unveiled the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, an updated version of the previous model.
Like its predecessor, the new stylish wearable device features a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, and gets a larger display 1.38-inch P-OLED Display with a better resolution (480×480 vs. 1.3” 320 x 320 for the original Urbane). The key innovation is the LTE and 3G cellular connectivity, that allows the new Urbane to work as a standalone device without the need to be constantly connected to a smartphone, just like the LG Watch Urbane LTE, powered by LG proprietary operating system.
The battery capacity has been updated from 410 mAh to 570 mAh with a Power saving mode, to keep up with the 3G or LTE battery-draining connectivity. The new urbane gets a little more RAM with 768MB LPDDR3.
Internal storage remains the same (4GB), both models are IP67 certified water and dust resistant and provides a heart rate monitoring sensor (PPG).
On the design front, everything looks very similar, the new Urbane is a hair smaller and thicker, features a stainless steel body and comes in four flavors for the bands: Space Black, Opal Blue, Luxe White, Signature Brown. The bands are made of durable hypoallergenic TPSiV elastomer while the first Urbane got a leather band.
On the software side, on top of Android Wear, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, provide quick access to shortcut settings such as contacts, LG Health and apps list, from the three physical buttons.
The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition will be introduced first in the U.S. and Korean markets, and later in Europe, CIS, Asia and the Middle East. Price and availability will be announced at a later date.
