As it stands when our smartwatches alert us, it is usually done through a vibration. This is a good idea since having audio notifications can be rather annoying, especially if you’re in a meeting and you want to be discreet, not to mention who wants to silence both their phones and watches in the cinema, right?
However a recent teardown by the folks at Android Police has revealed that the recently launched Huawei Watch could have a speaker component inside of it. As you can see in the image above, the big piece of metal in the center is the alleged speaker component. Android Police also notes that this component corresponds with an opening in the watch itself.
Presumably this is where the sound would come out if there was a speaker in place. Upon further inspection and research, Android Police also discovered that the component is similar in design as the speaker component found in Huawei’s smartphones, lending to the speculation that this is indeed a speaker hiding inside the Huawei Watch.
However at the moment it does not work, which we have to ask, why not? Like we said, no Android Wear device currently supports audio output except via Bluetooth, so could this be a sign that future Android Wear updates might come with speaker support? More importantly, would you like to see speaker support in future Android Wear devices?
