Samsung recently unveiled its first round smartwatch called the Gear S2 and while the wearable device won’t be released for customers until this fall many are looking forward to getting their hands on it. We also continue to find out new bits of information about the device such as the fact that Here maps is the official navigation partner for the Gear S2 smartwatch, it will provide users with turn-by-turn navigation on their wrists.
Here maps is a solid competitor for some of the popular mapping services out there like Google Maps, it’s quite capable of doing what’s required from such a service and already millions of people rely on this service to find their way.
A version of the Here maps app designed specifically for the Gear S2 will be installed on the device, a green icon will pop up when the app starts, this shows that the app has found the user’s location.
So without having to take out their smartphone users can then navigate an unfamiliar area through the Gear S2 or locate a specific place near their location. The Gear S2’s rotating bezel can be used to choose between recent destinations or to search for a new location.
Tapping on the desired location will bring up driving and walking calculations, users will also get turn-by-turn navigation and integration for S Voice for a seamless experience.
