The first Halo game ever was released back in November 2001. Fast forward to today, Halo 5: Guardians is pegged for a release on the 27th of October 2015, meaning that even though the game has switched hands from Bungie to 343 Industries, the franchise has been around for about 14 years now.
The question we’re sure fans are probably wondering, could the franchise last even longer? Or will it one day stop being as fun as it used to be due to it being over-milked? According to Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox at Microsoft, he believes that the Halo franchise is good for another 20 years, likening it to the Star Wars and Spider-Man franchises.
Speaking to GameSpot, Spencer was quoted as saying, “I don’t want to overplay or overuse the franchise. It’s a franchise and an IP I expect to be around 20 years from now, much the same way Star Wars and Spider-Man and other things are.” However he adds that it needs to be managed in a way to ensure it won’t burn out.
According to Spencer, “I think it has the weight that it can support that, but I think that the franchise then needs to be managed in a way that doesn’t burn it out.” What do you guys think? Do you reckon that 20 years from now, you or your kids will still be playing Halo?
