Journalists, listen up! You might have your fair share of tools in the past, but this time around, here is yet another which might help you in your line of work – Facebook Signal. Fresh from word that there might be a Dislike button, Facebook Signal happens to be a brand new tool that will hopefully encourage journalists to find as well as share news from the network, which might also see the undermining of Twitter along the way.
All this while, many journalists have used Twitter to keep track of breaking news as well as to share whatever work that they have done, keeping fingers crossed that they will hit paydirt by having it redistributed in a viral manner. Facebook’s Signal could be disruptive (in a good way, of course), as it opens up the door to journalists and media outlets to have a number of tools and services that will allow them to locate and distribute their content.
Signal basically assists media outlets to find, filter and embed content from Facebook as well as Instagram – for news purposes, of course. This makes life easier for journalists to embed whatever trending content in stories which they happen to be working on, and journalists are able to “monitor which topics are trending and then quickly display related content that has been shared publicly — unranked and in chronological order — from both people and Pages for deeper context on those trends.” [Press Release]
