Display Production Issue Could Cause iPhone 6S Supply Constraints
Now that Apple has unveiled iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus it can get down to the business of manufacturing enough units to sell them, the company has already said that it’s seeing exceptionally strong demand for the new handsets which are on pace to beat the iPhone 6’s record of 10 million sales during the first weekend. According to the report Apple might find it hard to ship out all orders on demand considering that it’s facing display production issues.
KGI Securities claims that delivery dates for the iPhone 6S Plus have already slipped by 3-4 weeks primarily because of production issues with the larger model’s backlight hardware.
It’s also said that in order to work around these issues Apple is now transferring “substantial” iPhone 6S Plus backlight module orders to Radiant, this supplier is believed to be more skilled at producing modules for the new smartphone, it has abundant experience as it supplied Apple with the backlight module for iPad mini.
Despite warning about production issues, KGI Securities believes that Apple will have up to 2.5 million units ready to start shipments on September 25th, since delivery times have started to slip it’s unlikely that a pre-order placed now will be delivered by the release date.
