Cortana Could See Deep Integration In Cyanogen OS

Despite being based on Google’s Android platform, it seems that the folks at Cyanogen Inc. aren’t huge fans of Google. The company’s CEO had previously promised to take away Android from Google, and so far all their actions have certainly suggested that to be the case. In fact their latest move could be a pretty big one.

Speaking to the International Business Times, Cyanogen’s CEO Kirt McMaster revealed that the company is in talks with Microsoft about deeply integrating Cortana into future builds of Cyanogen OS. McMaster also states what we’ve been saying all along, and that is even if a voice assistant app were to perform better than the native version, the lack of system-wide integration already puts it at a disadvantage.

According to McMaster, “Natural language coupled with intelligence is very important but as an application it doesn’t rally [sic] work because you need to be embedded into the framework of the OS because that is where you get all the signal from the services that makes that intelligence smarter.”

As it stands, Microsoft has launched Cortana as a standalone app where it will arrive on iOS and Android platforms. It already exists on Android as a beta, so presumably once Microsoft finalizes it, the feature should find its way into Cyanogen OS in its future builds.
