According to the company, apparently this decision was made as they wanted to focus more on a web experience if you were to read comics from the desktop. “We recently decided to focus our development efforts on delivering a great web experience, announcing a release that includes enhanced library management using your browser and, as a result, we wanted to let you know that we have removed our Windows 8 app from download and will be retiring it.”
They also add that users will still be able to download and read inside of the app until the end of the year, but after that you will need to use the web version of app to read your comics, or turn to the Android or iOS versions. However there is some good news and that is they will be crediting users with $5 which will hopefully make up some the slight inconvenience.
Like we said, comiXology used to be a pretty big app for comics, but after Amazon acquired it and removed in-app purchases, its ratings have taken a massive beating. Even today despite the acquisition having taken place more than a year ago, the app is only rated at 1.5 stars.
