You’ve seen the two GOP debates over the past few weeks and now it’s time for the democrats to take the stage to convince you that voting for them is the way to go. CNN will be hosting a Democratic presidential debate on October 13th and the network has confirmed that it will provide a live stream of the debate in virtual reality. CNN says this will allow viewers to get a “front-row seat” and feel as if they are present in the audience at the venue itself.
In order to tune into the debate in virtual reality you’ll need a Samsung Gear VR headset and NextVR’s portal that’s available in the Oculus store.
Once the stream is up and running viewers are promised a great viewing experience from the perspective of an audience member, with viewers being able to “hold a gaze on a particular candidate, catch off-screen interactions, and more.”
It goes without saying that there won’t be a lot of people tuning in this way, virtual reality headsets aren’t really common among average users, but still this shows that CNN is willing to embrace the new technology as it steadily gains footing in the consumer electronics market.
The important question is though whether or not the stream will be of a good quality, we’ll find that out on October 13th.
