Games are meant to be fun, but there are some who take it much more seriously than they should. This results in games where players are calling other players names, berating them, harassing them, or in some situations have even SWAT-ed them! However in Heroes of the Storm, it looks like Blizzard will be trying their best to combat such behavior.
One of the ways Blizzard will be doing this is by introducing new reporting options. This allows player to report all sorts of behavior, ranging from hate speech, real-life threats, or even trolling behavior where players might try to lose on purpose to give the other team an advantage or just to annoying their team mates.
If players have been reported too many times, they will then be given a Silence penalty. Basically this means that their ability to chat with other players has been greatly reduced. This will last for 24 hours for the first infraction, and subsequent infractions will result in the time doubled, so essentially if you’re a particularly toxic player, you could find yourself silenced for weeks.
This sounds like a good idea although admittedly it isn’t really harsh enough to dissuade such behaviors, but we suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime what do you guys think? Is this a good system?
