Netflix has proven time and again that it can make great TV shows, with successes like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt the online streaming company has shown the world that it’s quite capable of beating TV networks at their game. What about movie studios? Netflix has released a trailer for its first feature-length movie called Beasts of No Nation and it certainly hopes that the movie does as well as it can possibly do.
Directed by Cary Fukunaga, Beasts of No Nation stars Idris Elba and child actor Abraham Attah who gets his first major role in this move. Early reviews of this movie have been quite positive and it looks like Netflix’s reputation for creating quality content might get a boost following the release of its first feature-length movie.
The idea behind creating original content for services like Netflix is to boost subscriptions, get people in who are willing to pay a monthly subscription fee to watch the original content as well as the plethora of content available in its library.
This is why most people will be watching this movie on Netflix anyway since major theater chains like Regal Entertainment, AMC Cinemas, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas have decided to boycott this film because of its simultaneous release on Netflix.
Beasts of No Nation will be released on Netflix come October 16th.
