At the moment the Apple Watch, depending on the model, is made from three different materials. There is the stainless steel model, the aluminum model, and the 18-karat rose gold model. The latter is the Apple Watch Edition which is priced at a whopping $10,000. Can’t afford that? You’re in luck because Apple might have a cheaper model on the way.
This is according to a report from The New York Times. They claim that according to their sources, Apple is working on new metal finishes for the Apple Watch. This will apparently result in a still-premium/luxury product, but it will also be more affordable. In fact they claim that a cheaper gold version of the Apple Watch could be in the works.
Currently the price difference between the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Edition is huge. Based on this report, it sounds like Apple could be looking for a happy middle, where it is still a premium product but with a more affordable price tag. Unfortunately it is unclear if this Apple Watch model will be introduced at the company’s 9th of September event.
It is largely believed that the event will play host to the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and the revamped Apple TV. However we have heard that it could also be an announcement for the new iPads, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple decided to slot in an Apple Watch-related announcement as well. Either way check back with us next week for the details.
