The discussions are said to be around the regulations of self-driving vehicles and what Apple needs to get their car on the road for public testing. The Guardian speculates that the meeting with the DMV suggests that development of the vehicle is much further along than we thought, and that it could be that the car is now getting primed for testing.
The logic here is that Apple would have had to test it internally first before getting it out on the road, so based on that, it would seem that Apple’s work on the vehicle is pretty far along. While Apple has yet to confirm their plans, the DMV commented by saying that “the Apple meeting was to review [the] DMV’s autonomous vehicle regulations.”
This is pretty much as close to a confirmation we can get on the matter. Unfortunately no word on when exactly will this testing take place, but knowing Apple’s penchant for secrecy, there is a good chance the vehicle will be as discreet as possible to prevent the drawing of unwanted attention.
