Apple May Have Leaked OS X El Capitan Release Date On Purpose

Today was a great day for Apple fans who love the company’s mobile devices, lots of announcements were made a couple of hours back and there are new products to look forward to. The company didn’t talk about Macs though and even though it confirmed when iOS 9 is going to be released it didn’t quite do the same for OS X El Capitan, but from the looks of it Apple might have been cheeky enough to leak the OS X El Capitan release date on purpose during a demo for the new iPhones.

Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi was demonstrating the 3D Touch feature on the iPhone 6S in the smartphone’s Mail application, between showing how applying varying levels of force can invoke the peek and pop gesture Federighi opened an email from Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing. The email had “El Capitan status” as its subject line.

The email clearly mentioned that “The El Capitan ship date is September 30,” it was marked as “Apple Confidential and Super Secret.”

Now if you’re even a little bit aware of how Apple conducts its events you’ll know that the entire routine is practiced multiple times before the team plays it out before the public, it’s highly unlikely that Federighi would slip up on stage and reveal something that the company didn’t want to at that particular time.

To me at least it seems that Apple is being a bit cheeky here, I’ll mark September 30th in my calendar nonetheless, can’t wait for El Capitan to arrive.

Update: September 30th it is! Apple has just updated its website to confirm the release date for OS X El Capitan.
