Last week Apple unveiled the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, pre-orders for the new smartphones are now open and even though they don’t bring a new design it appears that they might be on track to beat first-weekend sales record of the iPhone 6. Apple claims that pre-orders for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are “on pace” to beat the record of 10 million units set by iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in their first weekend.
Apple is going with a slightly different PR strategy this time around, last year it boasted that over 4 million pre-orders had been placed in the first 24 hours alone, this time around the company hasn’t given a concrete figure yet but says that demand for the new handsets is “exceptionally strong.”
It’s quite possible that the new handsets will be able to beat last year’s record considering the fact that iPhone 6S is being put up for sale in China from day one whereas China wasn’t a launch country for last year’s flagship.
iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will start shipping to customers in launch countries on September 25th, given the level of demand it’s unlikely that if a pre-order is placed now it will be delivered by launch day.
