If watching porn is your cup of tea then perhaps downloading shady Android applications off the internet isn’t the way to go about it. It’s no secret that adult websites have long been used to distribute malware and as more and more people move towards apps to get their fix, it’s only natural that the malware follows that course. Beware of an Android porn app called Adult Player, it has been found to be holding users random after secretly taking their photos when they’re using the app.
Security firm Zscaler’s analysts revealed that the Adult Player app for Android is holding users random after taking their photos secretly, their phones are then remotely locked and they have to pay a ransom before the picture is deleted and they can access their phone again.
However there have been reports that people who pay the ransom don’t necessarily get their phones unlocked, so they’re out as much as $500 in ransom but are still unable to get rid of the picture or get access to their handset.
Adult Player isn’t available for download through Google Play Store, but it’s being distributed through adult websites, and we all know how easy it is to sideload apps on an Android device.
Those who do find themselves in a situation can wipe their device and if they have a previous backup, restore their data. From the looks of it paying the ransom won’t do any good after all.
