Android Pay was recently launched which is good news for those who can’t wait to start using mobile payments. However there is a slight catch and that is Android Pay won’t let you use third-party lockscreens. This means if you’re a fan of third-party lockscreen apps such as Echo or Microsoft’s Next, you’d be out of luck.
According to Android Central, one of the reasons behind this is due to security. Since Google has no control over how third-party lockscreens function, it could be a less-than-secure solution meaning that someone could abuse your Android Pay if they got their hands on your phone. If you try disabling the system security, you’ll be greeted by a warning message that basically says you have to enable it or you can’t use Android Pay.
However it is possible to use a third-party lockscreen, but there is the inconvenience of having to unlock your device twice which will ultimately slow your experience down somewhat. Will Google eventually allow Android Pay to be used with third-party lockscreen apps? Like we said the lack of control means security could be an issue so it would seem unlikely.
So if you plan on using Android Pay, say goodbye to your third-party lockscreen apps, at least for now.
