Android Marshmallow October 5th Release Date For Nexus Devices ‘Confirmed’

Earlier this year Google confirmed the next major update for its mobile operating system which later received its official moniker of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Over the summer Google has put the new firmware through extensive tests to ensure that the software is ready for public consumption when it’s time for it to be released. While the company is yet to confirm when Marshmallow will be out a new report today pegs the Android Marshmallow release date for Nexus devices on October 5th.

AndroidPolice reports that it has been able to “confirm” that Google is going to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Nexus Player, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9 on October 5th, the date has previously been spotted on a Telus FAQ page.

Nexus devices always receive the new update first so it won’t be surprising to see them get Marshmallow first as well, however the OTA might take some time to arrive, but given that factory images are uploaded instantly anyone willing to do a manual flash can easily do so and get on the new firmware.

As far as Samsungs and HTCs of the world are concerned, OEMs will take some time to get the update ready for their devices, so begins a long and arduous process in getting the update through OEM and carrier hoops before it finally reaches the end user.

Keep in mind that Google hasn’t confirmed this date yet, it’s conducting an event tomorrow to unveil new handsets and is expected to confirm the Android Marshmallow release date as well.
