Amazon Launches An Entirely New Tablet That Costs Under $50

Over the past week it has been rumored consistently that Amazon is going to launch a new 6 inch tablet soon with a price tag of $50, and that rumor has almost turned out to be true, Amazon today launched an entirely new 7 inch tablet that costs under $50, $49.99 to be precise. The company calls it a “groundbreaking new tablet” that offers the best display in its price class and is claimed to be 2x more durable than the iPad Air with 2x more processing power than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.

The price alone is enough to make you understand that it’s not going to be a powerhouse of a tablet but it may have its uses. The tablet, simply called Amazon Fire, has a 7 inch 1,024×600 pixel resolution display with a 1.3GHz quadcore processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage and fairly basic front and rear cameras.

It runs on the latest version of Fire OS and Amazon claims the battery is good for seven hours of average use. It does have support for up to 128GB of expandable storage.

Amazon’s content ecosystem will ensure that there’s no shortage of things to do on this tablet. Customers get access to Amazon Underground which features unlimited access to more than $10,000 in paid apps and games for free. Prime members gets instant access to streaming media content, music and a vast lending library that features hundreds of thousands of books.

Amazon Fire tablet can be pre-ordered right away online for $49.99, interestingly the company believes many people will want to pick up multiple units at once, which is why it’s also selling the tablet in a six-pack. Pay for five and get one absolutely free for $249.95.
