[IFA 2015] It looks like the world of Chromebooks are about to get a whole lot more exciting – in fact, what makes the Acer Chromebook R 11 so different from the others is the fact that this is the first convertible Chromebook of its kind, where it is well suited for both work and play. I suppose it is not too far different from Lenovo’s Yoga range which has been around for quite some time already, but for a Chromebook this is certainly different. It can make the transition between four usage modes – laptop, pad, display and tent modes, depending on the situation at hand.
The Chromebook R 11 is flexible thanks to Acer’s patented 360 degrees dual-torque hinge design, which would allow customers to manipulate the display to any degree that they deem comfortable enough to work with. The dual-torque hinges will ensure that the display remains secure and stable during touch control, and the audio channel output is also smart enough to automatically reverse once the display changes orientation.
Supporting both landscape and portrait pad modes, it measures a mere 19.2mm thin, tipping the scales at less than 1.25 kg which means it is a snap to tote it around with you wherever you go. Other hardware specifications point to an Intel Celeron processor, an ultra-fast 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac wireless connection, a solitary USB 3.0 port, and a fast boot time. Expect the Acer Chromebook R 11 to be available from October onward with a starting price point of $299 each.
