Many have relied on Bluetooth, but companies such as Apple and Google have introduced their own systems, such as AirPlay and Google Cast, and now it looks like Yamaha wants in on the fun as well and have recently announced MusicCast, which is basically the company’s answer to AirPlay and Google Cast-enabled speakers.
So what is MusicCast? It’s basically Yamaha’s technology that through an app, it will allow you to play your music across multiple devices at home, as long as your phone and your speakers are connected to the same network. In a way this “trumps” Bluetooth due to the range and the multiple speaker connections.
According to Yamaha, MusicCast won’t just be limited to speakers. It is also expected to play nicely with streaming services, internet radio, and Bluetooth devices, along with set-top boxes, sound bars, and even Blu-ray players. As to which devices will be compatible, the company will be pushing out a firmware update to its RX-V 79 and Aventage RX-A50 AV receivers as a start.
