According to the latest stats offered by Valve’s Steam, it seems that Windows 10 gamers account for 2.3% of the total number of gamers on the Steam platform. We know this seems like a pretty small percentage, especially when you consider the fact that Windows 7 is at a whopping 44.91%.
However it should be noted that despite Windows 10 only being released a few days ago, it currently has about 2.21% of the Steam market for the 64-bit version of the game. This is already more than the latest version of OS X 10.10 who has a combined market share of about 1.94%. It has also surpassed the number of Linux gamers where Linux and its variants command a total of 0.89% of Steam’s platform.
It looks like the changes and new features implemented in Windows 10, along with the fact that it is a free upgrade for owners of genuine Windows, has certainly helped Microsoft. In fact we wouldn’t be surprised if Windows 10 catches up and surpasses Windows 8/8.1 in a relatively short period of time.
