Unfortunately if you were hoping that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive would get the same treatment as DotA 2’s The International, you might be disappointed to learn that might not happen. According to a report from IGN, Valve’s Erik Johnson seems to be quite uncertain about whether such a tournament will ever take place.
According to Johnson, “As a company we actually learn more when we do that. If we all point everything in the same direction, we’d have a real blind spot for when we’re screwing up. In some ways, you want to diversify a bunch of decisions across different projects because you zero in on the right answer quickly, as opposed to ‘we have this thing that’s working, everybody do that right now.”
Johnson has a point as what made one tournament so successful might not necessarily apply to other games. However like we said, there are plenty of non-Valve Counter-Strike tournaments that take place around the world every year, so there’s that. But for gamers looking for the same attention and prize pool that DotA 2’s The International gets, don’t hold your breath.
